Of course… What I would like to see Israel do is install a series of tracking facilities that determine the launch point of each rocket. Tie them into an automated artillery response that will flatten the surrounding area in a 200m radius.

A good system could plot the origin of the launch in a matter of milliseconds and at the ranges involved, arty could hit the spot within seconds.

It would be very hard for the people launching the rockets to get away and it would certainly discourage their use in any population center - provided that the Israelis stood firm and were very clear that the system was automated and that the Palis were the ones pulling the trigger.

There was a time, 1972 to be exact, when it was absolutely clear to everyone that the PLO was pulling the trigger. Then something happened, and nothing Israel can do will convince people that Hamas or Fatah is pulling the trigger—even though it’s just as clear to me as it was in 1967, even.

What you’ve described is high tech, just not high enough tech.;-)

Israel can trace the rocket fire. & that’s why civilians get killed. The terrorists know this - this is exactly why they fire from civilian positions: to beef up their casualties & make Israel look bad. I’m not even sure that if Israel handled it the right way - by disseminating those facts far better than she’s bothered to d already - that the terrorists would stop doing it. I think public opinion is too far ingrained.
